At Florida Eye Microsurgical Institute we are dedicated to providing our patients with the same respect and top notch services that we would expect to receive when seeking out medical services for ourselves. When patients come to Florida Eye, they become a part of our family, and we pledge to do our utmost to help care for their vision. Through exams and corrective procedures, patient education and continued contact, we keep patients healthy, informed and seeing the world more clearly.

Our Facility
The Florida Eye Microsurgical Institute is an ophthalmologic surgeon’s dream come true. The most current technical equipment enables physicians and staff to offer patients the optimum in eye care, from everyday eye exams to serious surgical procedures.
Located right within the Institute, the Boynton Beach Ambulatory Surgical Center makes it very convenient for doctors and patients to interact. Outpatient surgical procedures are performed in state of the art operating rooms, complete with the most technically advanced equipment available today, and our doctors are able to follow-up with their patients without ever having to leave their offices.
The Institute has its own pediatric wing as well. The idea behind the wing was to have a place specifically for children where they would feel comfortable and at ease with their surroundings. Staff and associates are friendly, making both parents and children alike comfortable and at ease with their surroundings.
Our Background
Founded in 1975 by Dr. Jonathan Chua, the facility and practice was purchased by Drs. Randy Katz and Lee Friedman in 2004, and re-introduced as the Florida Eye Microsurgical Institute. The move was a good one for all, as it allowed Drs. Katz and Friedman to have additional space to accommodate their growing practices, and Dr. Chua the luxury of still caring for patients, while at the same time affording him more time to be with his family.
Under the direction of Drs. Katz and Friedman, the mission of the institute remains the same — providing outstanding vision care to the population of South Florida. The addition of Dr. Barry Schechter as the Institute’s third partner and most recently Dr. Jason Gorscak as an associate has made it possible for the practice to reach out to even more patients, offering them a wider range of eye care solutions. With locations in Juno Beach, Wellington, Boca Raton and Boynton Beach, patients are able to be seen at the location most convenient to them.
